The images shown on this page were provided by Peter Papadakos taken 29 Jan 2004 at Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet.   Peter was there as part of a historical survey for Battleship Cove, Massachusetts.   The survey team was looking  for equipment that can be used for the restoration of

I was on Tulare,  29 Jan 2004, at Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet. I was there as part of a historical survey for Battleship Cove, Massachusetts and I took these shots. I thought you could use them for the Tulare  web site. The ship is empty of all stores and has quite a few empty spaces. This was the only internal shot that told me I was on LKA-112.

There are spaces on Tulare  that are intact, such as main control station in the engine-fire room. The  throttle board in the engine room is still pretty much intact, as is the galley. However, the radio rooms are mostly stripped. The exterior of Tulare is pretty much peeling away and with her cranes on her deck, the shift has caused a slight list to occur. The interior is in great condition with no signs of water problems. She does have dehumidification systems onboard running and she is powered.

As for parts, I hope to board Tulare again to see if any of her galley gear can go to both USS MASSACHUSETTS and destroyer, J.P. KENNEDY Jr (DD-850). In that way, some of Tulare can be saved.

I forgot to mention that there is still one twin, 3"/50 that still works on Tulare.  She still seems to be "on guard"!  Best regards to you and your former crewmates.

Sincerely,  Peter  Papadakos
